  • What is that clear stuff around the flowers? - What is "Epoxy Resin"?
What is “epoxy resin"? Sometimes referred to as epoxy and sometimes people just say resin, but it is called epoxy resin. Epoxy resin is two different liquids that when mixed together properly, will slowly harden over time. Because it is liquid initially, it makes it possible to mold it into almost any shape. It also makes it possible to place objects inside of it. Once it’s done hardening, it will be crystal-clear and glasslike. It is also incredibly, very durable, you can drop it and it won’t break. There are videos of people hitting it with hammers, it is very durable. It can get scratched, so it is not recommended to hit it with a hammer, but yeah, it is very strong. Epoxy resin was initially designed for industrial use and military applications, as a glue. It is very adhesive, it really likes to stick to almost any surface. Since its invention, it has been used in building construction, it is stronger than concrete. I’ve read that even NASA uses it in certain parts of space shuttles because it is so adhesive and so strong. In the art world it is commonly used in design, such as table tops, countertops, flooring, even for smaller projects. For jewelry it is very common. Really because it starts as a liquid and then hardens, you can basically do anything you want with it. It is very cool and I like it alot. So yeah, that is what the clear stuff around the flowers is, it is called epoxy resin.
